The class will review Code Blue data at UCSF, Code Blue team roles, the role of the primary nurse and respiratory care practitioner, use the of the Zoll defibrillator, how to locate emergency supplies, and documentation. Following classroom learning, learners will participate in simulation based on actual occurrences of cardiac and/or respiratory arrest. 3 CEUs provided by UCSF Nursing Department

OBJECTIVES:

  • Describe with accuracy and precision the individual roles in a Code Blue and the responsibilities of each role
  • Demonstrate proper use of medications, equipment, and processes in hands on skill practice
  • Demonstrate the functions of the Zoll defibrillator
  • Locate supplies within the Code Cart and verbalize the location of emergency supplies in the unit
  • Describe the importance and expectation of a post-code debrief
  • Empower nurses to confidently participate in an active role in Code Blue process
